The OSI (Open Systems Interconnection) Model was created by the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) in the early 1980s. Maybe you have heard about this organization from other standards like the ISO 9000 Quality Management Systems, ISO 14000 Environmental Management, among others. It includes hardware and software components. The model was created to help the interoperability between hardware from different manufacturers and the transfer of data from point A to point B. Though model is not perfect it those allows for a strong foundation for networking to come together. It is composed of 7 layers. Each one has a different responsibility. The picture below will provide more explanation on each layer.

Tip: To remember the proper order of the layers this anagram might help you. All People Seem To Need Data Processing
OSI Model in Action
There is a encapsulation process in the sender's computer, then data is decapsulated in the receiver's computer.
